Third Murrieta Mud Run Adopts Anti-Bullying As Its Cause

Runners raced through mud and muck Saturday in Murrieta, with a portion of event proceeds going toward PLUS programs at local schools.

Runners of all ages trudged and tramped through mounds of mud Saturday in Murrieta.

It was all part of the third annual Murrieta Mud Run, a 5K course that takes participants west from Town Square to B Street toward two obstacle course areas near New Clay Avenue.

Participants—some dressed in outlandish costumes or themes—tackled the course in waves as individuals or groups. Some of the larger groups Saturday included Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks Girls U16 Elite Soccer, PLUS (Peer Leaders Uniting Students), Weight Watchers and Icon Sports Performance & Wellness Alliance.

Returning competitor Jeffrey King won bragging rights as the first to complete the 9 a.m. wave. King also finished first in 2011.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s Murrieta Mud Run will go toward PLUS, a nonprofit anti-bullying program led by students at local school campuses, according to race organizer, HealthyRaces.com.

The hope is that PLUS will continue to play a role in the popular event, organizers said.
