KMA, how would you know how the deputy felt?
all-c-ing-eye April 23, 2014 at 02:08 pm
At this point police will have to reevaluate in the future if this is the kind of thing others willRead More be doing when diagnosed with a terminal illness. This can really screw up a policeman's head as assisted suicide is not legal in California [as far as i know] and it might require a new definition of the law and certain procedures when dealing with older people [sun city?] as this might come up again.
Vic April 23, 2014 at 02:33 pm
No one to blame but the victim who made this awful choice. Suicide is bad enough but to drag othersRead More into it as unwilling participants is hard to take. Can't imagine how desperate he must have felt at the end. It's easy to say that those who commit suicide are selfish but, in reality, they feel like they're doing everyone else a favor. They don't think about the wake of sorrow they leave behind. This time it's not only family, but neighbors and cops. My thoughts are with all of them and hope they can find peace, including Mr. Larragoitiy.

A PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THE CUT IN BUDGET FOR THE COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY. Persons thatRead More needed prescriptions to functions that needed a doctor interview to refill used to go to an appointment at any of several offices. The county cut out the branch and made everyone have to go to the main county mental hospital. There were no APPOINTMENTS. EVERYONE HAD TO WAIT ABOUT 4 HOURS OR MORE TO SEE THE DOCTOR FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND GET THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS REFILLED. People were standing in line for two or three hours every morning before the doctors even started seeing patients. The waiting AREAS WERE CROWDED AND STUFFY. I took someone there on several occasions. The nurses and staff were nice, but there were not enough of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I THINK IT IS LIKELY THAT THE NUMBER OF SUICIDES IN RIVERSIDE COUNTY INCREASED BECAUSE OF THIS. ----- I THINK THERE WERE PERSONS WHO WERE ABLE TO BE EMPLOYED WHEN THEY HAD THEIR MEDICINE HAD TO STOP WORKING OR GOT FIRED BECAUSE THEY HAD TO MISS SO MANY DAYS FROM WORK TO GET THEIR DOCTOR INTERVIEW AND MEDICINE.

@JD tippit -- Preliminary press releases almost always report the minimum amount from the bailRead More schedule. Final bail is usually adjusted after investigative reports are completed. The county D.A., or in this case the U.S. Attorney (bank robbery=federal offense), will seek enhancements base on the investigator's findings. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This explains why your friendly "sock sniffer's" original bail started at $5k, but escalated to $1M when evidence revealed that he was allegedly a serial pedophile who attempted to kidnap a young girl. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When the US attorney gets this case, there is no doubt that the multiple counts of bank robbery with a firearm will cause his bail to soar. But, I doubt that you will see that level of follow-up in the media for this case. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW: I don't mind explaining these things to you and others who are unfamiliar with the legal system. I just find it sad that you tend to frequently embarrass yourself on the Patch by making absurd comments before you have made any apparent effort to educate yourself. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps, if you spent just a little more time gathering some facts on topics, you could provide insightful comments instead of the misinformed remarks that you usually make. I'm sure it would draw more positive attention, rather than the hateful disdain from others that seems to follow you. ~Please accept this as constructive criticism... good luck.

After extensive investigation including additional witness and victim statements, the RiversideRead More District Attorney was consulted on the case. It was determined today, April 17th, that probable cause existed to re-arrest Mr. Garcia for 664/207PC - Attempt Kidnap. In addition, several additional charges of 311.11aPC - Possession of Matter Depicting a Minor Simulating Sexual Conduct were added to the case. Police Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Garcia's arrest for the above listed charges. That warrant was served at 1:15pm and Mr. Garcia was taken into custody without incident. He remains in jail at the Southwest Detention Center on $1 million bail. To date, 12 victims have been identified in this case.

It is amazing how many of these people come from outside the community. beaumontdave March 31, 2014 at 12:16 pm
Robbie, I read that a high water table can lead to liquefaction, but Beaumont's isn't high and mostRead More of the soil is more clay than sand, so the city's probably on good ground, but wedged between two active faults with a lot of smaller "cracks". When my friends lived at Orchard and Beaumont Ave, I happened to look at a USGS map, and saw a fault line going through their rental home, made them nervous as hell. lf I was buying or leasing I'd look at the USGS maps.

southernbelle March 19, 2014 at 08:47 am
@KMP--I can't imagine how difficult it would be to have someone you know and care about end up withRead More a charge like this. Especially when the person you know is not "this" person. We hear that all the time…"I can't believe it was him, he was such a nice guy." or "Unbelievable, she always seemed like a good mother." The thing is that when a person gets caught up in things they would not want others to know about, it is kept secret as far as they can help it and I assure you they aren't showing that side of themselves to people they know. Now I do thin there is a slight chance the guy could be innocent but he has had his day in court, and obviously was easy enough to convict based on the evidence for the jury to do so. Shame on his lawyer if he didn't do his job well and his client was innocent. But spewing anger at commenters here is out of line. Everyone is reacting to the end result, and people are disgusted and tired of child molesters taking advantage of our kids. Also, it is not "normal" for kids to watch porn, but it is becoming more and more "common." and yes, it is very disgusting and destructive, but we only have ourselves to blame for it. Remember all of us who wanted more freedom, less censorship in media?? It was the beginning of a monster because people really don't have good self-control and one thing leads to another. history has proven it.
H.Gracie March 20, 2014 at 06:29 am
When this case first broke there were a series of emotional responses from both the accused andRead More alleged victim. None of which were fair, being that neither side had the full facts of the case. Now, 18 months later, all the facts have been presented in a court of law and Garrett has been convicted by a Judge and Jury of his peers. Having been an unbiased witness to the facts of this case presented by both sides, the guilty verdict is one that cannot be disputed. Garrett received a minimal punishment, considering his actions will affect the victim for the rest of his life. Garrett committed the ultimate despicable act, abusing his position of power/influence, and robbing a child of his innocence. Now having justly been convicted, he must pay the consequences for his actions.

Let's give the police and DA a chance. Maybe there are more charges looming out there. Hopefully,Read More he was charged with a few crimes first and they are reviewing other charges to charge him to extend his prison term. Maybe, some sexual charges still to come. I think there were several young women under 18 that this predator e-attacked. I can understand how a very young and immature girl could be afraid enough to agree to his demands rather than have inappropriate pictures released on the internet. Why young people are sending sexual pictures and selfies of themselves that will follow them throughout their lives is beyond me. They need more parent involvement. My parents always told us that you should not do anything that you would not want me to know about, that really stuck. Can you imagine being a parent, going on the internet and seeing a picture of your daughter nude? I would be so steamed. I think these young girls need to pay some consequences as well, especially if they did not tell their parents as soon as this began. What are parents for if not to protect. I would have contacted the police immediately.
