Flatiron Construction is a private company. They did bid and won. They barely broke ground on itRead More "a year ago." People develop very unrealistic expectations for how long these jobs take. That is why they use the phrase "projected completion." Its actually pretty funny.....the same folks who cry about how long it takes and the inconvenience come from the same pedigree as those folks who DELAY these jobs due to environmental issues that come along unexpectedly.

It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

@ChrisG.. As for my moms ambulance ride, we have medical insurance so that is covered. As for theRead More ambulance ride vs me taking her, te paramedic highly suggested her going in the ambulance vs me taking her, she would get seen much quicker that way and they could monitor her. She is doing much better now thank you, but still sore. There were no "lessons" to be learned. And to the above comment about weights on the canopies, we did have weights. My friends in Beaumont felt the quake and I think its because they are on bad ground. Being on topRead More of an big aquifer that ground can cave in. I know people on the hill above didn't feel a thing for they are on solid rock up there. Anyone ever wonder about the risk of the ground falling in on top of that basin?
beaumontdave March 31, 2014 at 12:16 pm
Robbie, I read that a high water table can lead to liquefaction, but Beaumont's isn't high and mostRead More of the soil is more clay than sand, so the city's probably on good ground, but wedged between two active faults with a lot of smaller "cracks". When my friends lived at Orchard and Beaumont Ave, I happened to look at a USGS map, and saw a fault line going through their rental home, made them nervous as hell. lf I was buying or leasing I'd look at the USGS maps.

Business owners need to invest money in a surveillance system. One that is hidden. Had Larry hadRead More one? This gathering wouldn't be so bitter and frustrating...
Mike Mueller March 23, 2014 at 01:53 pm
I agree James. I own a business in Temecula and I have 4 cameras inside and 1 outside - all of themRead More are hidden except one and it transmits to an outside service, no tapes. I dont get why EVERY business does not have very high quality video imaging. In this day in age it does not make sense. I feel so sorry for Larry and his family. I wish people would use more common sense in protecting themselves and their legacy. We wouldnt be having this tragic conversation had he done the common sense thing.
Anthony March 23, 2014 at 05:07 pm
I am sorry to say Mike that "Common Sense" isn't very common any more. Additionally, manyRead More businesses are struggling out there and make the conscious choice not to purchase surveillance equipment. It is a sad fact of reality none the less true. There is definitely some extremely evil people walking among us who have knowledge of this horrible beating death of this man. I hope one of these individuals runs their mouth soon and that leads to the arrest and subsequent conviction of those involved and the family can have some closure. I'll be doing some personal investigating myself!

This i a good Initiative though. The E-waste, old batteries are all hazardous wasteRead More http://www.junkit.ca/blog/eco-friendly-junk-removal-update/ and it is really difficult for us to remove them since they are not bio-degradable. So these programs and local service centers are a real boon. But they need to be more active on this.

@Alex Bloated pensions of our teachers?! Teachers pay for their own pensions. The school districtRead More doesn't contribute a single dime to any teacher's pension. Unlike the city, county and state workers, they get their money matched. For every dime they contribute to their pensions, the state, county or city matches that dime. What would be nice would be to have the district pay for supplies so the teachers don't have to shell out the money. I understand that extra curricular activities cost money but that is something you choose to participate in. I would love to see the parent's reaction to having to provide construction paper, writing paper, glue sticks, scissors, paint, tape, staples, etc. to their child's education. I know that was just a few of things I had to provide for my students each and every year.
KarmaKing March 19, 2014 at 01:57 pm
"Teachers pay for their own pensions. The school district doesn't contribute a single dime toRead More any teacher's pension." Not so Sarah. Teacher's contribute 8%, school districts contribute 8.25% and the State kicks in 5%. That's according to CALSTRS which is the State's teacher pension system ( http://www.calstrs.com/general-information/plan-funding-faqs) and a recent OC Register article here: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/state-602273-percent-districts.html. of course, if CALSTRS can't address it's $70 billion unfunded liability, taxpayers have to pick up that tab also.

@AlwaysPO'd: I think that's a fair question. Let's consider the Veteran's National cemeteries. TheRead More headstones are diverse with dozens of different government sanctioned and approved emblems that "represents the sincerely held belief of the decedent." There are Christian emblems, Jewish emblems, even Wiccan and Atheist emblems. So this is an excellent example of what I'm referring to: Come one, come all; not just Christians, but people of all faiths... and non-faiths. Also, I suspect not too many people are going to argue that showing a religious symbol on a gravestone at a National Cemetery is the same as erecting a statue of Satan or the Ten Commandments on the State Capitol's grounds. (But I like your question! It's a good one!) BTW: Here's the link to the "Available Emblems of Belief for Placement on Government Headstones and Markers": http://www.cem.va.gov/hmm/emblems.asp

LBV, folks such as these loons, take things too far. They always have, and will, until the finger ofRead More common sense pokes them in the eye. If religion is indeed a belief, then isn't the disbelief of it also a belief? Who's beliefs are then justified to that which is allowed? You see the insanity they promote?

@jeff, only one personality on the Patch? How many do you have in real life? We are all pretty setRead More in our ways that is true. And that is more so for you extreme left and right. Here's the main difference as I see it. Conservatives do not stick behind politicians of their group like the liberals do. We stand behind the issue where you stand behind the party. That is why pols on the right have a harder time keeping political backing than democrats when they foul up. Look at Obama. You think all conservatives are racist but he couldn't have been elected if it were not for the conservatives. Many of us voted libertarian or did not vote for McCain or Romney because those two were not conservative enough. Also, Obama got elected on the white vote. We are not a racist nation as you like to claim Jeff. The right wants to provide a system were all of us, regardless of race, sex, religion, can have opportunity to support themselves. The left wants to enslave the poor in the chains of government handouts. If one side is racist it would be yours not mine.

aristotle March 13, 2014 at 06:36 am
Patch is the accomplice to the admittedly erroneous report of "bad water" in that theRead More headline reads: "Local Drinking Water Named ... Worst in Nation". It should have read: Environmental Advocacy Group Issues Erroneous Report on Water Quality". Patch does a disservice to the water consumers of Riverside County when it doesn't accept the "legally-required" test results of our water quality which is as good as and maybe better than bottled water. I have the EWG (Environmental Working Group) IRS filing available for Patch if they are interested.
