Orange Empire Railway Museum Celebrates Halloween Early

The annual Pumpkin Train takes families on a trip to a special pumpkin patch to pick out and decorate a pumpkin.

The sprawling Orange Empire Railway Museum is celebrating Halloween early with its Pumpkin Train on Saturday and Sunday.

The museum in Perris boasts one of the largest railroad collections in the country with over 200 locomotives, passenger and freight cars, streetcars, interurban electric cars, buildings and other artifacts dating from the 1870's.

The Pumpkin Train is the museum's annual Halloween celebration. Families can ride the train to a pumpkin patch, pick out and decorate a pumpkin, then ride the train back to the museum for a bounce house, a spooky caboose and other activities.

Tickets are $18 for ages 12 and up, $14 for ages 5 to 11, and free for those younger. Prices include pumpkins except for children 4 and under. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the museum at 951-943-3020.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the Pumpkin Train, other trolleys and trains operate from 11 a.m. to closing.
