Free rides will be offered New Year’s Eve by southwest Riverside County’s public transportation provider, Riverside Transit Agency.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, there will be no charge to board RTA fixed-route buses. RTA will be operating on regular schedules in the cities it serves, including Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Menifee and Canyon Lake.

The rides are being offered as “part of our commitment to providing a safe alternative to driving,” the agency stated on its website. “It’s also RTA’s way of saying thank you to our customers for their year-round patronage to public transportation.”

Those with questions about routes may call 951-565-5002. The Customer Information Center open will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Route information can also be found on Riversidetransit.com.

On New Year's Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, buses will not operate and all RTA offices will be closed.
