Back to School, Gas Prices, Vote By Mail: This Week in Murrieta

Five things to know in Murrieta, Calif. for the week of Aug. 12.

1. Weather wise, Murrieta is forecast to experience sunny skies and a warming trend of a few degrees this week. For Monday, the high temperature was expected to be 88 degrees, climbing to 91 on Tuesday, 92 on Wednesday, 94 on Thursday and 93 on Friday, according to a seven-day forecast from National Weather Service. Overnight lows were forecast in the low 60s, with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and before 11 a.m. most days.

2. It’s back to school for students in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District this week. Classes at all campuses begin Wednesday, with normal attendance days scheduled through Friday. 3. Wednesday’s regularly scheduled 6 p.m. Murrieta Planning Commission meeting has been canceled. Instead, commissioners will meet with City Council for a “chip chat” at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Council will express its appreciation for the volunteer commissioners, while discussing mutual goals, expectations, current items and future plans.

4. Registered voters in Murrieta who are served by the Rancho California Water District should have received vote-by-mail ballots for a board of directors election. The ballots are due back by Aug. 27. For more information, read Patch’s article regarding the election.

5. Gas prices remain below the $4 mark in the region, City News reported Monday. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire dropped today to its lowest amount since May 8, decreasing seven-tenths of a cent to $3.927. The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has fallen for 13 consecutive days and 19 of the past 20, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 5.7 cents less than one week ago, 9.5 cents lower than one month ago and 13.2 cents below what it was one year ago. The average price has fallen 14.2 cents over the past 20 days, including a half-cent on Sunday.
