Murrieta Valley Student Wins iPad2 at Library Conference

Young men in grades 10 through 12 attended a conference at the Murrieta Public Library, designed to help them prepare for success in their next phase of life.

Twenty-seven young men attended an informative conference May 5 at the , and one walked away with an iPad2.

All attendees were entered to win the iPad2, and Ryan Freer, a junior at , was randomly selected to the win the newest technology from Apple.

During the conference, young men in grades 10 through 12 heard from area professionals such as Mike Hayden, co-founder and vice president of Champion Employer Services; Tom Luna from Joseph A. Bank Clothiers; Lin Farmer, vice president of Automotive Testing and Development Services; and Financial Advisor Craig Carper from La Point Wealth Management.

The iPad2 was compliments of a grant from the Verizon Foundation. 

"The purpose of the conference was developed to provide male youth the opportunity of a short, but informative event where a variety of social skills mixed with highly useful finance, job search and interviewing tips were shared by local, credible individuals and agencies," said Loretta McKinney, library director.

The goal was that it would result in a more self-assured and capable young man who is ready to advance to higher education and the workforce, McKinney added.

The "4 The Guys: Empowering Tomorrow’s Men" conference was a collaboration of the Murrieta Public Library Foundation, the and the Temecula Valley Woman’s Club.

The library held a for the area's young women.
