Murrieta Library: iPad2 Will Be Given Away as Part of Young Men's Event

Young men in grades 10 through 12 will gain skills important to succeeding in life. One lucky attendee will win an iPad2.

Young men in grades 10 through 12 are encouraged to participate in a one-evening conference to be held at the Murrieta Public Library where they will learn skills to succeed as they move to the next phase of life: jobs and college.

An iPad2, funded by a $1,967 Verizon Foundation grant, will be given away to one participant at the end of the conference day in an opportunity drawing.

But the bigger prize, according to organizers, will be the life skills they take away.

The “4 The Guys: Empowering Tomorrow’s Men” conference was developed to provide male youth the opportunity of a short, but informative conference where a variety of social skills mixed with highly useful finance, job search and interviewing tips will be shared by local, credible individuals and agencies, resulting in a more self-assured and capable young man who is ready to advance to higher education and the workforce, according to a news release.

"The goal is to share helpful information in 50-minute seminars from reliable sources within the industry on finance, business attire, social etiquette and career etiquette topics," said Library Director Loretta McKinney.

"The only cost to participants is to commit to sharing at least one idea or concept learned from the conference with another friend who did not attend," McKinney said.

Local organizations, such as the Men’s Warehouse and Champion HR are also donating personnel as conference presenters and others are providing donations such as gift bag items.

In addition to the Verizon Foundation grant, $1,518 raised during Temecula Valley Woman’s club's “Read a Good Book Ball," which was co-sponsored by the Friends of the Murrieta Library, will fund portfolios packed with information related to each seminar as well as an iPad2 for one lucky participant.

"The '4 the Guys: Empowering Tomorrow’s Men' event is a collaboration between the Murrieta Public Library Foundation, the Friends of the Murrieta Library and The Temecula Valley Woman’s Club benefitting the young men of Murrieta and Temecula Valley," McKinney said.

"The 4 the Guys Conference is a great example of the community working together to help our local youth develop the necessary skills to be successful in their education and the workforce!”

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 5. Pre-registration to attend the event is required by May 4, as space is limited.
