Local Rescue Mission in 'Urgent Need' of Donations

Food donations are needed to continue the Temecula-Murrieta Rescue Mission's weekly Food Box program for area needy, according to a news release. The mission is also in need of warehouse space.

The Temecula Murrieta Rescue Mission is reaching out to the community for "urgently needed" food donations in order to continue its Food Box program, according to a news release.

More than 200 food boxes each week are provided to the area’s impoverished and homeless families, the news release stated. In 2011, Rescue Mission’s Food Box program provided more than 478,000 meals to local needy.

Food boxes are given out from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Wednesday at , 24225 Monroe Ave. in Murrieta. Food boxes are also distributed from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Thursday at Rancho Community Church, located at 31300 Rancho Community Way in Temecula.

"This Food Box program is essential to many families in the Temecula and Murrieta communities who are having trouble making ends meet, and rely on the food boxes to feed their families," said Jim Palmer, president of the Rescue Missions. "In order to continue this important program, we need the community to come together and donate food items, especially those specific items for which we have an urgent need."

The nonprofit announced it urgently needs the following food items: peanut butter, canned meat, cereal, canned fruit, pasta and pasta sauce.

Community members were invited to drop off non-perishable food items in the donations bins at Rancho Community Church at 31300 Rancho Community Way in Temecula.

Additionally, TMRM staff can be contacted at JayneBarrett@Verizon.net or eric.wells@rescuemission.org to arrange a drop-off time at the TMRM warehouse.

Individuals or companies wishing to provide a monetary donation may visit RescueMissionTM.org.

TMRM is also in need of a 2,000- to 10,000-square-foot warehouse space for storing, sorting and preparing food boxes. Individuals who can help provide warehouse space or need additional information were asked to call 951- 526-1200.
