Habitat for Humanity to Offer Homes to Murrieta Families

A search is underway for qualified families.

Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley intends to purchase homes in Murrieta and Lake Elsinore to rehabilitate and offer to partner families, it was announced Wednesday.

The organization was recently awarded $1.5 million from the Riverside County Economic Development Agency to purchase the homes. The funds come from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act approved by Congress in 2008.

Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley is searching for eight qualified partner families for the homes to be awarded, according to a news release. Selected families will purchase the homes at no profit and with affordable, no-interest mortgages.

“Our family selection follows the national Habitat for Humanity guidelines. Partner families will be selected for houses based on the family need, ability to pay and willingness to partner with Habitat," said Executive Director Tammy Marine.

"In addition, a unique purchase condition called ‘sweat equity’ requires families to donate volunteer labor working on their own or other Habitat houses.”
