Chinese Exchange Students in Need of Host Families This Summer

The students from Hainan Island, China, are between the ages of 12 and 16.

Chinese exchange students are slated to visit Murrieta this summer, but some are still in need of accommodations.

EF Educational Homestay Programs, a nonprofit organization, is currently looking for volunteer host families.

There are still 35 students and four chaperones who need homes, according to Kristina Rigden, program coordinator.

Students are between the ages of 12-16 and are from Hainan Island, China. The students will arrive July 19 and depart August 7. While here, students will attend summer school each weekday between 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Shivela Middle School in Murrieta.

As an incentive, churches, clubs and organizations can earn $25 for every family that hosts a student for the 20 days. Also, high school students of host families can earn 45 hours of community service for time spent engaging the exchange students.

Students have their own spending money, medical insurance and speak English. They may share a room in the host home, but must have use of a bed of their own.

"Families are asked to provide three meals a day and a stable, caring environment," Rigden said.
