17-Year-Old Local Boy Starts Own Business

Adventures are nothing new to local Vista Murrieta High School senior, Danny Simkins.

At 10, he was nominated for participation in People to People and chosen to go to Australia for 18 days representing American youth.

He decided he wanted to be a professional skate-boarder.

In December 2010, he went on a scientific excursion boat to Antartica, quite an experience for a high school sophomore.

At that time, he had organized his own Jerkin dance team, The Kr3w, and was performing with professional singers.

Now at 17 and a senior, after the MVUSD implemented a new program requiring all seniors to participate in an Exit Interview and Essay in order to graduate—the topic being what high school has done to help you choose a career giving detail to the steps you have taken to pursue that career—Danny felt forced to make a decision on which way his future in the job arena should go; having taken a cooking class where the word career was never mentioned, Daniel decided he wanted to own a restaurant.

A big endeavor on a smaller scale, he invested his savings and time when not at his job at SkyHigh Party Zone and with help from his family, he wrote his business prospectus, bought a cart, equipment, supplies, food, passed the health code regulations and secured his first big event and Danny’s Dogz…a dog like no other… his very own business emerged!

“There are many responsibilities and challenges I didn’t anticipate in owning my own business,” says Danny. “I had to grow-up in a hurry and do a lot of research and talking just to get my first event, The City of Temecula’s 4th of July Party. I’m very excited and grateful to the many people who have shared ideas and helped me get started. I’m planning on owning several carts by this time next year. I need to earn a lot of money to open my first restaurant location and Danny’s Dogz is my stepping stone to that ultimate goal.”

Be sure and stop by Danny’s Dogz at Ronald Reagan Sports Park from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the 4th of July Celebration.

His hot dogs are truly a dog like no other!
