Solar Power: Murrieta and Temecula Compete for Region’s Solar Champion Title

Cities of Temecula and Murrieta are reaching record numbers of solar panel installations this year as residents can now receive cash-back for going solar.

More than ever before, residents throughout western Riverside Country are looking to solar energy to power their homes. This rush to energy independence has actually created a friendly rivalry between Murrieta and Temecula.

These neighboring valley cities are vying for the title as solar capital of Riverside County, using the assistance of cash-back incentive programs that have helped them to post record numbers of solar power installations this year.

In fact, a recent study conducted by PV Solar Report showed the number of rebate reservations increased by more than 200 percent in Temecula, and some 140 percent in Murrieta. Both cities are in the top 20 in the state for fastest growth and adoption of solar technology. The study also showed roughly a quarter of the Temecula solar reservations were a result of the Temecula Solar Program, the largest collective deployment the largest collective deployment of solar power in the county’s history.

The Temecula Solar Program, completed earlier this year by Sullivan Solar Power, gave 50 Temecula residents more than 350,000 watts of clean, renewable energy solar installations throughout the city to help transition the region into a strong solar community. Program participants received a total of more than $225,000 from Sullivan Solar Power for their participation. In May, the same company launched the Murrieta Solar Program, which is expected to surpass the Temecula program for the highest growth in solar in the county.

Solar power is now more accessible than ever. By taking advantage of these cash-back initiatives, residents not only support a sustainable future for western Riverside County, but they can get paid for doing so.
