Whew! Excessive Heat Warning In Effect Until Friday Night

Forecasters predict "minor" cooling patterns by weekend

What you feel has been confirmed by the National Weather Service: It's much hotter than usual and starting at noon, excessive heat warnings are in effect throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties through 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.

Prepare to keep mopping your brow through the end of the week as a ridge of high pressure looms over the region. Weather forecasters do see a "minor cooling trend" this weekend.

Meanwhile an excessive heat warning remains in effect as inland temperatures climb during daytime between 102 and 112, and overnight lows range from 70 to 80, according to the National Weather Service.

If you don't have air conditioning, no surprise, in the combination of sizzling days and warm nights, you will have trouble keeping cool. Stay safe, officials say.

Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day; reschedule to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight clothing when possible and keep drinking water.

Individuals susceptible to the heat, such as the elderly and families with young children, can take advantage of cool centers.

People with heat-related symptoms of headache, dizziness, weakness or muscle pains or nausea and vomiting should try to remain in a cool place and drink water to prevent dehydration, county public health officials have said.
