Murrieta High School Girls Basketball Tournament Update

Tournament finals Saturday; Nighthawk Classic Championship at 7 p.m.

Murrieta Valley

Murrieta Valley advanced to the finals to meet Redlands East Valley for the Nighthawk Classic Championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Hawks got there by demolishing the Ravens from Vista del Lago 70-12 Friday.

All 11 Nigthawks fed on the scoring frenzy with Alex Morrison and Karen Wolf leading the way with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Brynn Dahmer added nine, Aliah Marshall eight, while Savannah Corredor and Ariana Hernandez both scored seven.

Deshea Wilkes scored six, Julia Cardenas 4 and Breanna Williams and AJ Williams had two apiece to cap off the Nighthawk offensive attack.

The Nighthawks beat Redlands East Valley 68-52 earlier this month at the Valley Invitational Tournament.

Vista Murrieta

Vista Murrieta played an incredible game but fell short against Etiwanda 83-64 in the West Coast Holiday Classic. The tenacious Broncos refused to give in to the Eagles who are ranked fifth in the state and eighth in the nation by Maxpreps.com.

Leitasi Cravens was the spark that fueled the Broncos with her “refuse to lose” attitude. She scored six points while Yuendie Guridi and Sarafina Maulupe led the Bronco offensive attack with 16 each. Brittney Reed added 12 points, Alexis Rivas 10 and Jaelyn Brown three.

The Broncos are now 11-3 and were set to play the Vikings from St. Bernard on Saturday.

Murrieta Mesa

Murrieta Mesa drove past Cimarron-Memorial High School from Las Vegas in the Lady Bears Holiday Classic. The Rams trailed 11-7 in the first quarter before dominating the second, outscoring the Spartans 14-4.

Both teams played well in the second half as the Rams held on to win.

Mikayla Green dropped in 18 points to spearhead the Ram offense. Shayd Bowers added 10 and Kiersta Tanner eight. Jackie Pulatie scored two and Octavia Williams one.

The 39-33 victory gives the Rams an impressive 11-4 record and two wins in this tournament. Murrieta Mesa were scheduled to take on the Thunderbirds from Yucaipa at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Poly.
