Heat Wave Brings High Temps to Murrieta This Week

Temperatures were expected to soar in all of Riverside County this week, peaking Thursday in Murrieta at 108 degrees.

A heat warning was issued Monday for all areas of Riverside County, where triple-digit temperatures were expected to peak Thursday.

In Murrieta, temperatures were forecast to reach 104 degrees. Tuesday the mercury was expected to rise to 105 degrees, Wednesday to 107, Thursday to 108 and Friday to 107, according to a seven-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

As such, a hazardous weather outlook was in place.

"High pressure will bring hot daytime weather to Inland areas," the weather service stated.

Riverside County public health officials issued a heat warning for all areas of the county.

During hot weather, people were advised to take the following precautions:

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity if possible;
  • If you have to be outside, drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids;
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing;
  • Wear a hat to shield yourself from the sun;
  • Use sunscreen to reduce possible sunburn;
  • Take advantage of air conditioning and shade if possible; and
  • Never leave children or pets in enclosed vehicles, even briefly.

Individuals susceptible to the heat, such as the elderly and families with young children, can take advantage of cool centers.

In Murrieta, the serves as a cool center.

People with heat-related symptoms of headache, dizziness, weakness or muscle pains or nausea and vomiting should try to remain in a cool place and drink water to prevent dehydration, county public health officials said.
