Fourth of July, Fireworks Guide for Riverside County

For Murrieta residents who missed the show at the, fireworks shows celebrating America's 236th birthday will begin tonight in Riverside County, ahead of a series of parades and pyrotechnic events planned countywide on Wednesday.

At Storm Stadium in Lake Elsinore, a fireworks display is scheduled for 9 p.m., following the Storm's game against the Bakersfield Blaze. Shows are scheduled around the same time at Jurupa Valley High School, 10551 Bellegrave Ave., and Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd.

On July 4th, Independence Day parades will be held in Corona, San Jacinto and Temecula.

The Corona "Main Street U.S.A Parade" will begin at 10 a.m. at Ontario and Main streets, featuring law enforcement units, fire engines, marching bands, military hardware and other exhibits.

San Jacinto's parade, themed "A Salute to Our Military," will begin at 9 a.m. at Midway Street and San Jacinto Avenue, with tractors, classic cars and members from each military branch on hand.

Temecula's Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Old Town Front Street at Second Street. Entrants include the Temecula Bike Coalition, the California Highway Patrol, the Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1508, the U.S. Forest Service and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, fireworks shows will be held at the following locations:

-- Beaumont, Stewart Park, Ninth Street and Orange Avenue;

-- Corona, Santana Park, 598 Santana Way;

-- La Quinta, Community Park, 77-865 Avenida Montezuma;

-- La Quinta Resort, Avenida Fernando and Eisenhower Drive;

-- Lake Elsinore, off the levee, Lakeshore Drive;

-- Moreno Valley, Morrison Park, Dracaea Avenue and Morrison Street;

-- Palm Desert, Civic Center Park, Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avenue;

-- Palm Springs Stadium, 1901 E. Baristo Road;

-- Riverside, Evergreen Memorial Historic Cemetery, 4414 14th St.;

-- Riverside, La Sierra Park, 5215 La Sierra Ave.;

-- Riverside, Mt. Rubidoux Park, 4706 Mt. Rubidoux St.;

-- San Jacinto, Valley Wide Park, 901 W. Esplanade Ave.;

-- San Jacinto Soboba Casino 23333 Soboba Road; and

-- Temecula, Ronald Reagan Sports Park, 30875 Rancho Vista Road.

In Riverside County, residents are prohibited from using fireworks except in Blythe, Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs and Indio, where so-called "safe and sane" fireworks can be sold to the public.

The devices, which must meet state fire marshal certification, are mostly pyrotechnics that do not explode or fly, including sparklers, ground spinners, fountains, snappers and caps. Municipalities can authorize fireworks demonstrations, and the county grants permits for fireworks shows in the unincorporated areas.

Under county Ordinance 858, fines for illegally storing, transporting or setting off fireworks can range from $500 to $1,000. A violation is a misdemeanor. After a first offense, a repeat violator can be sentenced up to one year in jail.

According to county fire officials, any person who triggers a brush fire because of the illegal use of fireworks will be held responsible for all firefighting costs.

San Bernardino National Forest rangers reminded visitors and campers that any type of firework is prohibited in federal preserves.
