PHOTOS: Vista Murrieta Plays in Championship Game

Many loyal fans were in attendance, one in particular.

Much can be learned from adversity. The Broncos experienced a bit of that in their championship football game at Centennial (Corona) on Dec. 6. Final score: Vista Murrieta 12, Centennial 26.

Tremendous friendships were forged by these young men and their coaches through the months and years of practice, weight-lifting, play memorization, team meetings, and games.

The measurement of success for some was only in the win-loss column. For others who saw the “big picture,” the loss that night was about building character and enduring through whatever life throws your way.

And then there’s the spirit of giving—giving service to the school and community.  When asked for his thoughts on the season, coach Coley Candaele emphasized the example of one man that has touched the Bronco team and the school.

“Mr. Kip Cothran has been a loyal member of the Bronco family since the school opened,” Candaele wrote Patch in an e-mail.

“Kip and his wife Michelle have two Bronco graduates—Michelle in 2009 and Kasey in 2010.  Even though Kip’s kids have graduated, he is still at every Bronco game as the leader of the Bronco Fight Song after every touchdown.  His tremendous spirit and service to our school will leave a legacy for every one that ever attends here.”

Daughter Michelle Cothran told Patch via Facebook that her dad has “...been involved since 2004 when I started at Vista, and has continued to volunteer even after my brother graduated in 2010! He's attached, and loves the principal of C.L.A.S.S. (character, leadership, attitude, scholarship and service). He's found something to invest his time in where he feels welcome!!”

For those ever in attendance at a Bronco home game, you know who Kip is by his unique "5-0 5-0” raffle shout! “Five-Oh, Five-Oh! Get your 50/50 tickets here!” wrote Michelle.

Congratulations to all associated with the Bronco family on a fine season.
