Vista Murrieta Alumnus Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

IRVING, Texas - Oklahoma State's Kevin Dougherty has been named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for October it was announced today, marking the first time in his career he has received the distinction.

A senior from Murrieta, Calif., Dougherty earned his first career victory this past week at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas.

He opened with an 8-under 63, which was one stroke shy of the school's 18-hole scoring record held by Morgan Hoffmann, Hunter Mahan and Jonathan Moore. Dougherty played bogey-free through the first 41 holes of the 54-hole event at Royal Oaks Country Club.

He posted rounds of 68 and 71 and birdied his last hole to finish one stroke clear of the field. Dougherty's 11-under 202 total also helped the Cowboys win their second consecutive event to wrap up the fall.
