The Southwestern League champion Murrieta Valley High School’s boys basketball team earned the No. 5 seed in the CIF 1AA Division playoffs and a first-round home game against Corona, Wednesday at 7 p.m. A victory will put the Nighthawks into Friday’s second round against either Valencia or Oxnard.

Vista Murrieta earned an at-large berth to the 1A playoffs, where it is seeded No. 11. The Broncos will play their first round game at Palmdale, which tied for third in the Golden League. The winner of that game will advance to the second round at Desert Sky League champion and No. 6 seed Silverado, which was given a first-round bye.

In girls basketball, Murrieta Valley earned the No. 10 seeding in the 2AA Division. The Southwestern League champions play host to La Quinta (fourth place in the Desert Valley League) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Should the Nighthawks win, they would square off against either Santa Ana Foothill or Anaheim Savanna in Saturday’s second round.
