Murrieta's Rickie Fowler Near Top of Leaderboard

Rickie Fowler was one stroke back from a trio of leaders heading into round two Friday at Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C.

Murrieta-bred pro golfer Rickie Fowler heads into the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship one stroke behind the leaders.

Fowler scored a 66, 6-under par along with four others Thursday Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C.

There were no bogeys for Fowler in round one.

He had a birdie putt on all but one green, and the longest putt he had for par was 4 feet. He hit 6-iron to the front pin—a tiny target—on the par-5 seventh hole for an eagle, then birdied three of his last four holes, according to a Daily Wrap-Up found on Pgatour.com.

"I feel that I'm good enough to win," Fowler said, during a PGA TOUR Q & A. "I definitely feel like the amount of people expecting or thinking that I can win is a compliment. I'm not too worried about the talk that goes on about when my first win is coming, but it's my main goal, and that's what I'm focused on."

Leaders Ryan Moore, Stewart Cink and Webb Simpson all went 7 under in round one.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both went 1 under.

In his third year on the PGA TOUR, Fowler, who graduated from in 2007, is still seeking his first TOUR win.

Fowler tees off at in the second round at 12:35 eastern time Friday.

His track record in the Wells Fargo Championship includes one top-10 finish and a top 20.
