Murrieta's Rickie Fowler Claims First PGA TOUR Win

Rickie Fowler defeated Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Wells Fargo Championship Sunday.

Wearing his signature bright orange, graduate and pro golfer Rickie Fowler claimed his first PGA TOUR victory since going pro three years ago.

Fowler defeated Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Wells Fargo Championship Sunday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlottesville, N.C., PGA is reporting.

The 23-year-old Fowler moves to No. 15 in the latest FedExCup standings with his victory, according to PGATOUR.com.

Fowler earned $1.17 million with Sunday's win and best of all, achieved his primary goal of winning on the PGA Tour, USA Today reported.

"It'll take a bit for it to sink in," Fowler told PGATOUR.com. "Obviously there's a lot of people that have helped me out through the years, and going through and thanking them one by one is going to take a bit, but I've already thought of a few, and nice to have my mom and my girlfriend here, and my dad is still probably jumping around at home. He's probably one of the most excited of all of us, and then I've got my coach Barry up above watching us."

Fowler returned to Murrieta in June 2011 for a Growing up, Fowler was coached by McDonnell at on Washington Avenue.
