Murrieta National Little Leaguers Get Coached by the 'Big Kids'

Three local high school baseball teams have signed on thus far to help coach during Murrieta National Little League's Friday Night Lights clinic, held each fall.

Murrieta high school baseball players are using their off season to help the younger generation develop their skills and it is not going unnoticed.

It is all part of Friday Night Lights, a series of clinics Murrieta National Little League holds each fall to help its players improve their skills and receive some specialized training.

“What is unique about this year is that MNLL has partnered with our local high school baseball coaches and baseball teams,” said Naomi Sandoval, information officer for Murrieta National Little League.

On recent Friday nights, baseball coaches and players from Murrieta Mesa High School and Calvary Murrieta Christian came out and took the field with the aspiring players. They worked on throwing, hitting, fielding and pitching. Coaches and players from Vista Murrieta High School have agreed to take part an upcoming clinic.

“The teenagers working with the little kids were all so helpful, patient, compassionate and an inspiration,” Sandoval said. “After all what little boy or girl doesn't look up to the ‘big kids?’”

MNLL expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the local high school programs for spending time with the league and “their future ball players,” according to Sandoval.

The clinics, offered for players 7 years old to 15, continue through Nov. 1 at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park.

Also, on Oct. 30 at the sports park, MNLL will be accepting registration for its spring season. Teams are being formed for players 4 years old through 15, according to Sandoval.
