Local Basketball Players Impress At NCAA College Exposure Tournament

Players from Murrieta and Temecula work out for college scouts against strong national competition as they aim to earn college scholarships.

Iceman Basketball Club, a group of high school basketball players from Murrieta, Temecula and Riverside, had a strong showing in this month's Cream of the Crop NCAA Exposure Tournament in Long Beach.

Coach Todd Malecki said their 2-2 record over the July 14-15 weekend included an impressive showing against nationally-ranked Compton Magic. The Icemen kept up with the Magic, losing in the final three minutes.

Icemen are playing in the prestigious Double Pump End of Summer tournament this weekend. As of Friday morning, the team was 4-1 and was set to play in Anaheim.

"If we can win three games we can win the championship in our division," said Malecki, who is a 23-year coaching veteran with experience in the professional, college and high school levels.

Some of Iceman’s top recruits include Davin Guinn (Vista Murrieta High School), Jordan Perry (Vista Murrieta High School) and Dylan Martin (Chaparral High School).
