Fowler Ties for 31st at British Open, Pockets $48,672

Murrieta golf phenom Rickie Fowler finishes in 31st place at British Open, earning $48,672 of the tournament's $8 million purse.

Murrieta Valley High School graduate Rickie Fowler—ranked No. 20 worldwide among golf professionals—finished the British Open Sunday tied for 31st place.

Fowler finished with a three-over par for a total of 283 in the four-day major tournament, and took home nearly $50,000 of an $8 million purse, Golfandpurse.com reported.

Ernie Els, veteran golfer from South Africa, finished in first place with seven-under par and pocketed $1.452 million.

Adam Scott of England finished in second place a won $838,978.

Tiger Woods tied for third place with a three-under par and took home nearly half a million.

The 23-year-old Fowler has earned $2.78 million while on the PGA TOUR in 2012, according to Rickiefowler.com.

In May, Fowler win at the Wells Fargo Championship, taking home $1.17 million of the $6.5 million purse.
