Calvary Murrieta Football Finishes 2011 Ambassador League Campaign

The outcome of Friday night's game did not tarnish an otherwise respectable season by the Warriors of Calvary Murrieta.

The visiting Ontario Christian Knights went home with a 52-0 win over the Warriors to conclude their regular season schedule and clinch the league championship.

As can be assumed by the score, the stats were fairly lopsided as well.  For those local fans in the stands at Temescal Canyon High School’s field, they never quit cheering on their Warrior team.

The Knights scored in each quarter: 21, 16, 8, and 7, with junior running back Grant Jepson gaining the bulk his teams’ 200-plus rushing yardage.

Their junior quarterback Craig Bruinsma was quite efficient for the evening with 8 completions on 9 attempts for over 170 yards.

Various Warrior rushers gained 96 yards on 27 carries.  Their junior quarterback Zach Chesser was 5 of 13 for 68 yards and one interception.  His longest pass was for 23 yards.

Calvary Murrieta’s head coach Brad Schwab spoke about the season: "We started off real strong with 17 kids.

"With 17 kids it’s tough to keep that momentum all year long.  They worked so hard, they worked real hard off season in the summer and they came out rolling and then the injuries [came]. We had four guys injured on a team of 17 at one point."

Schwab was happy to have improved on last year's 1-9 season record, ". . . and we're a much smaller team!" he exclaimed.  "We're moving forward.  I'm really proud of the guys."

The Knights were undefeated in league and had many lopsided victories.  Coming into this game, Coach Schwab said their goal was to have fun and not get hurt.

"OC's just a great team,” said Schwab.

"Man-for-man, we knew they were going to be tough."

The Warriors will only graduate six seniors after this school year.

"This team has a lot of heart and the JV did real well this season [5-4 record] so we're bringing up a lot of guys," added Schwab.

Ontario Christian finishes the regular season 5-0 in league, 7-2-1 overall and waits for its CIF playoff pairing for this upcoming Friday.

Calvary Murrieta finishes fifth in league with a record of 1-4, 4-6 overall and will look forward to off-season training and an improved 2012 season.
