80 Murrieta Residents Complete Marathon, Half Marathon Sunday in Carlsbad

The sold-out Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon took place Sunday with 2,000 entries in the marathon and 8,000 in the half.

With the roads still slick from rain, thousands pounded the pavement Sunday morning in Carlsbad in northern San Diego County for the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon.

Twenty-five Murrieta residents ran the marathon, and results can be found here. Murrieta resident Whitney Carpenter, 26, finished in 25th place among females aged 25 through 29, while 47-year-old Joe Garbutt of Murrieta finished in 77th place among males aged 45-49.

Fifty-five Murrieta residents, including Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert, ran the half marathon. Results of that race can be found here. Twenty-three-year-old Paige Mobley of Murrieta finished the half marathon in 17th place among females 18-24.

Mario Macias, 31, from Manitou Springs, Colo. finished the marathon in first place with a time of 2:19:43, running at an average pace of a 5:20. This was his second year in a row winning the race
