The Nighthawks Soar Over Citrus Valley in Round One of CIF Playoffs

Murrieta Valley pulled together as a team when Aliah Marshall suffered a knee injury and left the game in the third period.

The Nighthawks were firing on all cylinders Saturday night as they cruised to a 64-39 win over a frustrated Citrus Hill team.

“We definitely were looking for a complete-team win tonight. With Aliah Marshall suffering a knee injury in the third quarter we needed the bench to step up and they did just that,” said Nighthawk Coach Scott Richards. “Aliah started off extremely strong and helped us jump to a lead we would never give up.”

Marshall scored a total of 16 points, 10 in first quarter, grabbed four rebounds and three steals before being injured as the second half began. That’s when Karen Wolf and company stepped up their game.

“Karen Wolf did a great job in the second half controlling the boards and drawing fouls. She scored 10 points alone off of free throws, while finishing with 16 points,” said Richards.

“Arianna Hernandez did a fantastic job controlling the tempo of the game and excelling against Citrus Hill’s pressure while scoring 13 points of her own.”

Brynn Dahmer scored six points, Deshea Wilkes four while Julia Cardenas and Alex Morrison each had three. Simone Jimerson added two points and Isabel Munoz sunk one from the charity stripe.

Marshall was having one of her best games of the season when she went down with a hyperextended knee.

“I was playing one of my best games ever,” Marshall said. “I was so happy to play with the team. Everything was so nice.”

She is expected to be back Wednesday when the Nighthawks travel to Saugus to take on the Centurions in round two of the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.
