Menifee's Paloma Valley surprises the competition to finish second behind Corona Centennial.

The Riverside County Wrestling Championships were held last weekend to determine who had the best programs in the area. Teams from more than 40 schools competed in the tournament held at Arlington High School in Riverside.

The Vista Murrieta Broncos and Murrieta Mesa Rams represented Murrieta in this year’s event. Other local schools that participated were Paloma Valley, Chaparral, Great Oak, Temescal Canyon, Elsinore and Lakeside.

The two-day event was won by the Huskies from Corona Centennial with 225.5 team points. Paloma Valley was a surprising second with 214.3 points. Riverside King placed third while Chaparral and Temescal Canyon tied for fourth.

Vista Murrieta placed 20th in the tournament while Murrieta Mesa came in 25th. League continues this week as the Rams host the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks Thursday night.
