The Vista Murrieta Broncos ended up with a homecoming victory Friday in a nailbiting game against San Diego's top-ranked team, Cathedral Catholic.
The first quarter score was Cathedral Catholic 3, Vista Murrieta 0.
At halftime, it was Cathedral Catholic 10, Vista Murrieta 7.
The Broncos remained down in the third quarter.
That changed in the fourth when Vista Murrieta scored, bringing it to 14-10.
The outcome still was not certain until there were 41 seconds left on the game clock. That is when Bronco senior linebacker Bryce Smith picked up a loose ball and ran it in for a 55-yard touchdown to put Vista Murrieta ahead 20-10.
Final score: Vista Murrieta 21, Cathedral Catholic 10.
