MVHS Head Volleyball Coach Steps Down

After serving as the Nighthawks' girls varsity volleyball coach for 20 years, Coach Sue Lillie has decided to step down in order to spend more time with her family, it was announced.

Murrieta Valley's longtime head volleyball coach has announced she is stepping down from her position.

After serving as the Nighthawks' girls varsity volleyball coach for 20 years, Coach Sue Lillie has decided to step down in order to spend more time with her family, including two children who are active in high school athletics, according to a news release from the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.

Lillie led the team to five Southwestern League volleyball championships during her tenure. Her team also qualified for the CIF playoffs in 18 of those seasons.

“Coach Lillie has been a tremendous asset to our volleyball program and to the volleyball community and she will certainly be missed,” said Murrieta Valley Athletic Director Darin Mott.

“Her knowledge of volleyball and her commitment to the kids of Murrieta Valley High School are evidenced by the strong connections she has with her players and with her coaching staff. We certainly understand the pull between being a coach and being a parent and while we are sorry to see her leave the head coaching position, we support her decision and wish her all the best in the future.”

The head volleyball coaching position will be advertised within the district, Mott said.

They hope to attract a number of qualified candidates, he said.
