Murrieta's November Students of the Month Announced

Six local high school seniors were honored Nov. 7 as part of the Murrieta Valley Chamber of Commerce High School Student of the Month Recognition Program. 

Murrieta Valley High School Senior Mia-Kyla Coronel is an intelligent student with a 4.2 GPA and a work ethic that will take her far. Coronel has been a leader in the JROTC program for four years. She said JROTC has taught her the importance of camaraderie and brotherhood and she has enjoyed watching her fellow cadets rise to their potential in the program. Coronel is a member of National Honor Society and she  volunteers weekly at Loma Linda Hospital. She plans to follow in her mother’s footstep and become a nurse. Coronel’s hopes to go to college on the East Coast and she will continue to volunteer in the community when she becomes a nurse.

Calvary Murrieta Christian High School Senior Landon Collom is a quiet leader who has challenged himself academically and worked hard to achieve his goals. Landon wants to be a doctor and he has applied to several UC colleges and Cal Baptist University. Landon is known for his character and compassion and for serving others. He plays varsity basketball and is a member of National Honor Society. Landon also teachers children at his church and serves in the community.

Oak Grove Center Senior Ashley Keistler has made a tremendous turn-around in her life since entering Oak Grove and has shown tremendous resilience. Ashley serves as President of the Interact Club and she attended the Rotary Youth Leadership conference. She has been involved in ASB and she volunteers at Michelle's Place,  senior citizen centers and has been involved in raising money to help women in India women become self-supporting. Through a Workability program Ashley has worked at a local hair salon. She plans to go to college and pursue a career as a therapist.

River Springs Charter School Senior Kylie Canales is artistic, creative and passionate about dance. Kylie has danced for 13 years and she plans to pursue dance professionally. She is respected by her peers and teachers and she has made a positive difference on campus. Kylie plans to pursue a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree and also study kinesiology. She has served an internship at a dance studio and an internship for the head of dance choreographer at Cal State Long Beach.

Vista Murrieta High School Senior Aaron Ruth is a scholar athlete who is a respected leader on campus. He is President of the school’s Bronco Bleacher Creatures Club, a group of about 1,600 students. He served in ASB for three years and is the kicker for the varsity football team. He also plays varsity soccer and runs track and field. Aaron has challenged himself academically with several AP and dual enrollment courses and he has 3.9 GPA. Ruth is known for serving and finding the good in others. He approaches life with a huge heart, always giving of himself. Ruth hopes to play football in college and he plans on becoming a high school English teacher or counselor.

Murrieta Mesa Senior Dustin Nethercutt is a quiet, humble leader whose actions speak louder than words. Nethercutt has a 4.0 GPA and he plays varsity basketball and runs track. He is the team leader of the school’s Rapid Response medical team and he is in the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation. Through the Freshman Connection Club he serves as a  mentor to several freshmen. Dustin has applied to all five service academies and he hopes to go to the Air Force Academy and pursue a career in the military. Dustin is also in the school’s Pink Ribbon Club, a cause that is close to his heart after having lost his grandmother to breast cancer and his mother being diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Dustin said through those challenges he has learned how important his family is to him and how important it is to help people which is why he plans to become a doctor, preferably a neurologist.
