Murrieta Valley Dance Team Heads to Nationals

Murrieta Valley brings home two trophies from last weekend's state competition before heading to nationals.

After competing in the California State Cheer & Dance Championships on Sunday, the Murrieta Valley High School Dance Team is headed to nationals in Florida.

Coach Hollee Romero’s Nighthawks were graceful, smooth and sleek as they took second place Sunday in the Varsity Hip Hop Competition. They were also successful in the Large Varsity Jazz Category, placing third in the championships that were held at Citizens Business Bank Area in Ontario.

Another area team was also successful in the State Championships: Great Oak’s Wolfpack took first place in the Super Varsity Cheer Category.

The Murrieta Valley dancers leave Thursday to compete in the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Fla. The team has been working hard preparing for the prestigious event and hopes to again finish as one of the top high school teams in the nation.

The 16-member team will compete in the Large Varsity Jazz and Hip Hop divisions. The Nighthawks will face a field of 44 strong teams from all over the U.S. in the large division. Keep up with all of the action this weekend by logging on to Varsity.com.

The dance team includes varsity and junior varsity dancers. The dancers perform at multiple functions throughout the year; including, school rallies, athletic games, showcases, competitions and the annual MVHS Dance Production.

Congratulations to Coach Romero and the Nighthawk Dance Team. Come out to see them preform during halftime at home basketball games this week before they leave for Florida.
