Murrieta Schools Earn $17K Through Fresh & Easy

Fundraising efforts through a Fresh & Easy shopping program will continue to benefit Murrieta schools, it was announced last week.

Murrieta schools garnered more than $17,000 through participation in the Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market "Shop for Schools" fundraising campaign last fall.

For every $20 spent at the store, participating schools received $1 donation.

Kindergarten through eighth-grade schools within a three-mile radius of any can participate in the "Shop for Schools" program.

“In a time when school budgets continue being cut, we’re happy to be donating over $17,000 to Murietta [sic] schools,” said Fresh & Easy Murrieta District Manager James Cundari.

“'Shop for Schools' is much more than just a fundraising program—it is a great way for us to directly help our neighbors, teachers and future leaders, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the program back in the fall.”

Fresh & Easy is giving more than $2 million to local schools in Arizona, California and Nevada. More than 2,700 schools participated in the fundraising program that ran from Sept. 15 to Dec. 31.

In addition to collecting receipts, registered schools also participated in Shopping Nights, fundraising events that provided an opportunity to raise more money.

From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on each school’s designated Shopping Night, 5 percent of a local Fresh & Easy store’s total sales were donated to the school.

Fresh & Easy offers favorite national brand products and household items, all at low prices, store representatives said. The grocer’s popular fresh&easy brand products have no artificial colors or flavors, no added trans fats, no high-fructose corn syrup, and only use preservatives when absolutely necessary, store officials said.
