Murrieta Mesa Thumps Temecula Valley 34-17

The Rams put it all together in the second half and bring home their first league win.

Murrieta Mesa High School captured its first league win Friday night, beating the Golden Bears from Temecula  Valley High School.

The Rams overcame adversity and the loss of all-league starting Quarterback Chase Chambers to an injury.

Wide Receiver Parker Erickson replaced Chambers and started at quarterback. Erickson went 20-34 for 320 yards and three touchdown passes to lead the Rams to victory.

The Bears were stunned at his performance. This is the back-up Quarterback?

Erickson performed even better than last week when he led the Rams to a narrow 33-30 loss against the Nighthawks of Murrieta Valley.

Temecula Valley played well against the Rams, moving the yardage chains all night long. They led 17-10 late in the second quarter until  Erickson hit Gilbert Toves with a 49-yard touchdown pass and Mesa never looked back.

The Ram Defense got started in the second half and totally shut down the Temecula Valley offense. The Bears could move the ball, but not into the end zone.

The Defense stiffened and no points were allowed in the 3rd and 4th quarters to ensure that Mesa would not be denied its first Southwestern League Victory.

The Golden bears ended up with 398 total yards, led by running back Brendon Marchand's 139 yards on 19 carries. TV Quarterback Kyle Plantier
completed 16 of 34 passes for 243 yards, including a 37-yard TD to fullback Griffin Doran. Wide Receiver Brock Dudley caught seven passes for 108 yards. Leo Mendez added a 22 yard field goal.

In addition to the TD pass to Toves that gave Mesa the lead that they
would not relinquish, Erickson also passed to Kyler Vasquez and Khalil Sharpe for touchdowns.

Place kicker Angel Ortiz had a 25-yard field goal. Vasquez added an 80-yard dash to the end zone in the fourth quarter to put the game away and into the history books for the Rams.

Murrieta Mesa is now 6-2, the best record in the young football program’s history. The Rams will now prepare for the league’s number
one team and reigning CIF Champion, Vista Murrieta.

The Broncos just handed Murrieta Valley it’s first loss of the season in Friday night’s battle of the unbeatens.

Congratulations to Coach Schaeffer and the Ram Football
