Murrieta Mesa Students Attend MSJC Engineering/Survey Day

About 150 high school students gathered at Mt. San Jacinto College’s Menifee Valley Campus recently to learn about careers in engineering and surveying and find out about the education needed to enter these fields.

MSJC’s Engineering/Surveying Day, held on Dec. 5, attracted students from high schools in the Riverside County’s Southwest region. They met with industry experts and four-year universities and participated in hands-on demonstrations with equipment used in those fields.

Lori Benson, Career and Technical Education Project Coordinator, organized the event. She said industry speaker Brian Fox from Cozad & Fox Inc told the students how he received his higher education at MSJC.

“It was such an awesome day,” Benson said.  “I love hearing the professionals share their expertise and passion for their careers with students who are eager to learn and excited about exploring career options.”

Students from Murrieta Mesa, West Valley in Hemet, Perris High School and the Santa Rosa Academy in Menifee participated in MSJC’s Engineering/Surveying Day. Industry speakers from the Riverside County Transportation Department, Spectra Precision, Cozad & Fox, Inc., Leica Geosystems, Lair Properties, Eastern Municipal Water District (Brian Raines) and CAD Instructor from Perris High and MSJC were among those who presented information to the students.

Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Baptist University representatives also attend to help the students.
