Murrieta Mesa High School and Murrieta Rotary to Host Free Thanksgiving Dinner

The school is accepting food donations as it prepares for the fifth annual "Share the Harvest" and fall festival, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The following is a news release from the Murrieta Valley Unified School District:

The Murrieta Mesa High School Interact Club and Murrieta Rotary will host their fifth annual “Share the Harvest” Thanksgiving Dinner and Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 23  from noon until 6 p.m. at Murrieta Mesa High School, 24801 Monroe Ave. in Murrieta.

The free event is open to everyone in the community. Murrieta Mesa teacher Michael Stowe is organizing the outreach for the economically challenged individuals and families in our community but he said, “All community members are welcome to attend so we can have fellowship and celebrate our thanks in a community fashion.” Last year approximately 2,000 people were fed at the event and 250 people took home complete Thanksgiving dinner boxes to feed a family of four.

Along with the dinner there will be activities, games, crafts, and a Fall Festival for the children. Entertainment will be provided by student dance groups and musicians.

A traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served with turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, drinks, and pies for dessert. In addition, a limited number of Thanksgiving meal boxes will be distributed for families to take home. There is a limit to one per household.

The school is accepting donations of canned green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, sweet potatoes, instant mashed potatoes, instant turkey stuffing, frozen pies and turkeys. All donations may be dropped off at the high school office. Any collected items that are not used for the Thanksgiving meal will be donated to local food pantries.
