MSJC Alumni Sought for 50th Anniversary Documentary

A team in the Multimedia class is creating the film as the college approaches its 50th anniversary in 2013.

A team of Mt. San Jacinto College students is seeking MSJC alumni to follow and comment on the progress of a documentary the students are producing to honor MSJC’s 50th anniversary in 2013.

The students, who are enrolled in a course offered by the Multimedia Department, have created a Facebook page called Anniversary 50 Project http://www.facebook.com/#!/Anniversary50Project and a blog, http://anniversary50project.blogspot.com, to keep alumni, current students and the community up-to-date on the project. The students are working through the summer, poring through old newspaper articles, yearbooks, interviewing MSJC alumni and staff.

“We would like people to follow the blog and the Facebook page and comment,” said student Laura Rundell, who is the production manager for the project. “It would be great to hear from former students who can share any interesting facts of the early years. Our team has already uncovered so many great stories, but hearing from alumni will help us unearth other treasures.”

The class focuses on the early stages of making a documentary to celebrate the college’s 50th anniversary. Students were selected through an interview process that resulted in the creation of an exceptional team, said Don Smith, co-chair of the Menifee Valley Campus Multimedia Department.

Guided by instructors Tom Merritt and Jerome Billins, the students will research the history, develop a script and prepare other aspects for the actual production. Production begins in the Fall of 2012 with the MUL214 class. Prospective students will be required to go through an interview process to be selected for the special projects class.
