Mikayla Greens Stars for Murrieta Mesa in Lady Bears Holiday Classic

Rams beat Yucaipa 42-39 to take fifth in the tournament at Poly High School in Riverside.

Mikayla Greens scored 20 points and dominated the defensive boards to lead Murrieta Mesa High School to fifth place in the Lady Bears Holiday Classic at Poly High School in Riverside.

The girls basketball team has blossomed into a winning program this season. The Rams are now 12-4 after beating the Yucaipa Thunderbirds 43-39 at the Holiday Classic on Saturday.

For her outstanding play, Mikayla was selected to the All-Tournament team.

Senior playmaker Shayd Bowers scored 11 points. Jackie Pulatie and Kiersta Tanner each added six.

“I was very pleased with how the girls played all week long,” said coach Robert Gergins. “Every team we played was from a division higher than us. They hung in there against a very good Riverside Poly team in their opening game, and then played tough against three strong opponents on consecutive days back to back to back.”

The Rams will face Chaparral in their first league game at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 in Puma country. Chaparral is 7-4 and took fourth place in the Lady Bears Holiday Classic.
