Hunter-Wethers Named Principal of Rail Ranch Elementary

Interim Principal Tammy Hunter-Wethers will stay on as the school's permanent principal.

A permanent principal was named Thursday for , the Murrieta Valley Unified School District announced.

Tammy Hunter-Wethers, when Kerry Wise stepped down to return to the classroom, will stay on as the permanent principal.

Hunter-Wethers was selected after a committee comprised of parents, faculty and staff provided a recommendation for her appointment, according to Karen Parris, district spokesperson.

"The members of the committee were unanimously in favor of recommending Hunter-Wethers as the permanent principal for the school," Parris said, in a news release.

"Committee members said she is supportive of students, staff and parents and she is a top tier instructional leader who has a vision for meeting the needs of students," Parris said. "In the three months she has been at the school, Hunter-Whethers has earned the respect and admiration of the students, staff and parents."

Superintendent Dr. Stan Scheer also commented on Hunter-Wethers' appointment.

“We are fortunate to have an administrator with Hunter-Wethers' leadership skills and experience," Scheer said. "She has proven herself to be an effective instructional leader, approachable, an enthusiastic supporter of the school and an advocate for students. We are very pleased that the school community at Rail Ranch has embraced her as principal.”

Hunter-Wethers came to the district in 1996 after teaching in Los Angeles schools for 10 years, according to the news release. After teaching elementary school at Murrieta Elementary and Cole Canyon, she served as an assistant principal at Alta Murrieta and then at Buchanan Elementary.

She has 20 years of elementary teaching experience. Hunter-Wethers earned a bachelor's degree from University of California, Los Angeles, and a master's degree in educational administration from Azusa Pacific University.
