Girls Water Polo: Defending CIF Champion Nighthawks Defeat Rams

Murrieta Valley varsity girls water polo is now 2-0 in Southwestern League play.

After a win Tuesday, Murrieta Valley varsity girls water polo is now 2-0 in league play and ranked sixth in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 bracket.

Defending their Southwestern League and division championship titles, the Nighthawks stormed past Murrieta Mesa to let everyone know they are definitely back in the hunt for another crown.

Murrieta Valley got off to a fast start and never stopped putting on the pressure. The girls scored 10 unanswered goals before the Rams got on the board. Final score: Nighthawks 14, Rams 4.

Last week, the Nighthawks defeated Great Oak, 21-10.

The young Rams girls water polo program has been improving steadily.

"We are trying to building our program and I am pleased with the progress that we have made so far this year," said Murrieta Mesa Coach Audra Woods. "I’m really excited to see how the girls improve as we head into league play."

In the JV game, the Rams lost to MVHS 7-14.

The Rams play Temecula Valley Thursday while the Nighthawks will be hosting the Broncos in the MVHS pool. Varsity games begin at 3:30 p.m.
