Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta to Host CIF State Championship Opener

The Southwestern League champs ready for crucial opening round against the Longhorns.

The Southwestern League champion Lady Broncos are back on the court Wednesday night to host Rancho Buena Vista in the critical Division 1 opening round of the CIF State Girls Open Division Basketball Championships presented by Farmers.

“We are very excited to qualify for the state tournament and receive a sixth seed," said Vista Murrieta Head Coach Chris Jones. "This is quite an accomplishment for our girls and is a tribute to them for all the hard work they have put in starting last summer."

The Broncos are eager to get back on the court after being eliminated in the CIF Southern Section Division 1A tournament last week. Vista Murrieta’s tough, physical style of play and their “refuse to loose” attitude make them a dangerous threat and potential state champions. They are ranked 38th in the state by Maxpreps.com

Led by senior captains Serafina Maulupe and Alexis Rivas, the Broncos are a poised and enthusiastic squad. They are joined by junior Yuendie Guridi, sophomore Leitasi Cravens and freshman phenoms Brittney Reed and Jaelyn Brown.

“Winning the San Dimas Tournament, the Southwestern League as undefeated champions, advancing to the CIF semifinals and now to the state tournament all show the heart, grit, determination and abilities that our team has. I am so proud of all they have accomplished this season,” Jones said.
