Girls Basketball: Broncos Dominate in Tournament

Vista Murrieta girls basketball is undefeated in tournament action as the team heads into the weekend.

The Broncos stampeded into the San Dimas Invitational Basketball Tournament this week beating West Covina and Charter Oak.

Wednesday’s win over Westview gives Vista Murrieta five straight victories after suffering two losses in the beginning of the season. They are 5-1 on the season.

The Lancers will be tough, coming into the game with a 6-1 record. More astounding is that they are averaging 87 points a game.

In Mondays 67-22 victory over West Covina, Brittney Reed was named player of the game by Jones. Reed recorded the first double-double of her career scoring 20 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, six steals and one turnover.

Teammates Yuendie Guridi scored 18 points, Serafina Maulupe added 12 and Jaelyn Brown scored 10. Alexis Marshall also scored three points as Megan Escobar and Alexis Rivas both added a basket.

The Vista Girls destroyed Charter Oak 59-20 in the second round of the tournament. Yuendie Guridi was named player of the game.

Guridi’s tough, aggressive, intelligent play spear headed the Bronco attack. She scored five points while grabbing five rebounds, nine steals, four assists and two turnovers.

Serafina Maulupe added 15 points to the Bronco attack while Marshall and Reed each scored nine. The rest of the scoring went: Jaelyn Brown eight points, Leitasi Cravens and Tatiana Navarro five each, and Alexis Rivas with four.

Maulupe came up big Wednesday night and won player of the game honors as the Broncos beat Westview 78-59.

A senior, Maulupe provides leadership and direction for the team. She scored 20 points with 12 rebounds four assists, four steals and four turnovers.

Reed and Brown both scored 17 points against the Wolverines. Guridi added 14 while Cravens had six and Alexis Rivas rounded out the Bronco scoring with four.
