Girls Basketball: Nighthawks Overwhelm Chaparral; Rams Fall to Broncos

Vista Murrieta varsity girls basketball is on top of the Southwestern League with a 4-0 record, while Murrieta Valley moves to 3-1.

Nighthawk varsity girls basketball is now 3-1 in Southwestern League play after a 57-40 win Friday over Chaparral.

Tied at 11 at the end of the first quarter, Murrieta Valley pulled away by outscoring the Pumas by six points in the second quarter. At halftime, the Nighthawks led 28-22 and would keep that lead until the final buzzer sounded.

Player of the gamer honors went to Murrieta Valley's Brynn Dahmer, who scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal.

Karen Wolf and Aliah Marshall both added 12 points for Murrieta Valley. Playmaker Ariana Hernandez had seven points and seven assists. Deshea Wilkes scored four more and hauled in eight rebounds.

Rounding out the Nighthawk scoring were Savannah Corredor with three points and Alex Morrison and Isabel Munoz with two apiece.

The Nighthawks travel to Temecula Valley on Wednesday.

Vista Murrieta started uncharacteristically slow against the Rams and held a one-point advantage at halftime. Leading 18-17, the Broncos exploded for 24 points in the third period and completely overwhelmed Murrieta Mesa.

The Rams rebounded in the final period but could not overcome the decisive blow the Broncos hit them with in the previous 8 minutes.

Final score: Broncos 54, Rams 37.

Shayd Bowers led the Ram attack with 15 points. Mikayla Greens scored eight and Octavia Williams five. Jackie Pulatie added another four points while Aimee Santiago scored three and Kiersta Tanner had two.

For the Broncos, Serafina Maulupe had 18-points and Jaeyln Brown dropped in 14. Brittney Reed scored nine points, Leitasi Cravens five and Yuendie Guridi four. Alexis Rivas and Tatiana Navarro both scored two.

The Broncos are now 15-5 overall and lead the league with a 4-0 record. They will play Granite Hills in a non-league game Monday.

The Rams are 12-8 overall and 0-4 in league. They will be looking for their first ever league victory against the Wolfpack from Great Oak on Wednesday.

This couldn't possibly happen in a worse place, given the proximity to the freeway, high school, andRead More numerous businesses. UGH! The following is the press release from MPD: On 05-21-13, at 3:27 AM, the Murrieta Police Department received a call of a water-main break in the area of California Oaks Road and Monroe Avenue. Murrieta Police and Murrieta Fire Department initially responded to the scene and discovered a large sinkhole in the westbound lanes of California Oaks Road just west of Jackson Avenue. The sinkhole was approximately 4 feet deep and about 20 feet across. The hydraulic pressure from the water-main break appears to have created this sinkhole and damaged all the westbound lanes of California Oaks from approximately Jackson to Monroe. As a result, the westbound lanes of California Oaks between Jackson and Monroe will be closed for repair until further notice. Rancho Water Officials estimate that these repairs will take approximately one week to complete. When traveling in this area please expect delays and plan an alternate route in order to arrive at your destination on time.

Hey Maggie, I don't get a chance to talk to the help desk but the ad has gone away for now. I justRead More made a comment on one of Carl Petersons blogs and now the comment has disappeared and no trace of it in my comment history. Are comments still pending proof reading before they post? Was it taken down by the blog author? I realize you guys have made a lot of changes so I'm still not sure if there are bugs being worked out or if some thing else is going on. Any help would be appreciated.
