Crews were working to restore electricity to a Murrieta school campus Thursday afternoon.

The power outage was reported 1:32 p.m. at Rail Ranch Elementary, 25030 Via Santee Road, district and Southern California Edison officials confirmed.

The outage was attributed to a discrepancy with the power line that serves the school and one other customer on Via Santee, SCE Spokesperson Dan Chung told Patch.

As of 2:49 p.m., crews did not yet have an estimate of when the power would be back up, Chung said.

"There was some sort of overhead failure," Chung said. "We are working on getting those two customers back up."

Parents of children who attend Rail Ranch were notified through a phone and email message, according to Karen Parris, spokesperson for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.

The outage affected Internet and phone service at the campus, according to Parris.

The school remained in session, and parents were advised that if they needed to get a message to their students they could call the district office at 951-696-1600, Parris said. The district would then be able to relay messages because they were maintaining contact with the campus by using cellphones, she said.

The district is also maintaining contact with SCE, according to Parris.

"At this point in time school will be held tomorrow," Parris said, just after 3:30 p.m. "We are being told it should be back up by early in the morning, before school starts."
