Community Can Vote to Help School Music Programs

Voting in an online contest will help Murrieta schools put on their second annual Taste of the Valley/Murrieta Jazz Fest. Proceeds from the event benefit school music programs.

The Taste of the Valley/Murrieta Jazz Fest is entering its second year.

The music and food festival is set for May 20 at in Murrieta. All three Murrieta high schools and four middle schools have joined forces for the event, with the intent of raising money for music programs.

In the meantime, participating Murrieta school bands are part of a national contest based on improving communities through music, said Christy Reichenbach, event organizer.

Community members can get the fund-raising effort off to a start by going to this link: http://makemusic.maker.good.is/projects/MurrietaTasteValley

Through the website, votes can be cast for the project that has the most ingenious idea to raise funds for local music programs. The winning idea will receive a $2,500 grant.

In order to meet health codes for the event, Reichenbach said a tent must be rented. The $2,500 would be put toward the tent rental, she said.
