Colo. Shooting Victim Gets Support from Murrieta Mesa Football

A donation jar for Aurora, Colo. movie theater shooting victim Zack Golditch will be set up during a Kick-Off Carnival for Murrieta Mesa High School Football Boosters.

The Murrieta Mesa High School Football Boosters will incorporate a fund-raising effort for an victim during their Kick-Off Carnival Thursday.

Money raised through a donation jar for shooting victim Zack Golditch, 17, will benefit his high school's football booster program, said Robin Frye, a member of the Murrieta Mesa booster club.

Zack, a football player heading into his senior year at Gateway High School in Aurora, is recovering after being shot, Frye explained.

Zack was in an adjacent theater when a stray bullet came through the wall and hit him below the earlobe, ESPN.com reported.

A 6-foot-5, 260 pound offensive lineman, Zack is a Colorado State University football recruit.

At least 10 of Zack's Gateway High School football teammates were in the theater the night alleged shooter James Holmes opened fire, according to reports.

One of the fatal victims, AJ Boik, attended the high school.

Frye said while the Kick-Off Carnival has been planned for months, the idea to help the shooting victim came while watching a news report.

"We figured we are doing this to raise money for our program, and donations will probably be down there because of this tragedy," Frye said. "So we will be collecting donations in honor of Zack."

The Rams' will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at , 24801 Monroe Ave., Murrieta. All ages are welcome. There will be a dunk tank, rock wall, bungee races, petting zoo, food vendors and more. Admission is free; wrist bands are available for attractions.
