Boys Basketball: 4 Teams Head to CIF Playoffs

Great Oak, Temecula Valley, Murrieta Mesa and Murrieta Valley boys varsity basketball teams prepare for CIF Southern Section playoffs this week.

Basketball season continues as four local boys varsity teams head into CIF Southern Section playoffs.

The Rams, having missed out on a share of the Southwestern League crown Friday, are looking for redemption this week in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AAA playoffs. Murrieta Mesa will travel to face the Indians in Palm Springs Wednesday. The Indians are 18-5 while the Rams were 16-11 this year.

In the 1AA Division, Southwestern League Champion Great Oak will host Foothill on Friday at the Wolf’s Den. The Knights were 21-5 and ranked 48th in the State. The Wolfpack was 17-8 overall and 8-2 in league play.

Temecula Valley and Murrieta Valley will be in the 2AA Division Playoffs.

The Golden Bears will be traveling to Victorville to battle the Jackrabbits. Victor Valley was 13-9 overall and 9-3 in league to finish second in the Desert Sky League. Temecula Valley ended the season 14-13 and finished fourth in the tough Southwestern League.

The Nighthawks will be at home Friday to host the Patriots of Heritage High School. The Patriots were 10-13 overall and finished last in the Sunbelt League. Murrieta Valley was 7-3 in league this season and fell to second place this year. The Nighthawks are 19-7 overall.
