Board Awards $1.35M for Roofing at 4 Schools

Roof replacements will occur at Murrieta Valley High School, Shivela Middle School and Avaxat and E. Hale Curran elementary schools.

Approximately $1.35 million in roofing contracts were awarded by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District Thursday for projects at four schools.

School board members unanimously approved the work that includes a new roof for Murrieta Valley High School’s Performing Arts Center and 800 wing, as well as roof replacements at Shivela Middle School, Avaxat Elementary and E. Hale Curran Elementary.

Construction will begin in July and be completed in time for the start of the 2013-2014 school year in August, District Spokeswoman Karen Parris told Patch.

A $948,042 contract was awarded to Fullerton-based Chapman Coast Roof Company, Inc. for the work at Murrieta Valley. The company was the lowest responsive bidder among nine, with the highest bid coming in at $1.27 million.

City of Orange-based Letner Roofing was awarded a $407,845 contract for roof replacement at Avaxat, E. Hale Curran and Shivela Middle. Letner came in as the lowest among eight bids up to $763,000.

The projects are being funded with general obligation bond proceeds, according to a report prepared by Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Bill Olien.
