Back-to-School: French Valley Families Donate Food for Needy

More than 10 bins of food were donated by families of La Vorgna Elementary School in French Valley as part of a back-to-school picnic held Friday, Aug. 23.

When families of Temecula Valley Unified School District's Susan La Vorgna Elementary School in French Valley celebrated the end of summer Friday with a back-to-school picnic, it was no ordinary gathering.

While La Vorgna’s PTA gave families an event filled with fun and Jamin’ Jump activities, families gave to our greater community by providing donations to the Community Mission of Hope, according to a news release.

Local businesses such as Temeku Cinemas joined in the giving by donating popcorn for the event which was given to participating families, said Karen Kearns, PTA president for La Vorgna.

“Our focus this year is on community and what better way to begin the year than with an event that is filled with community giving,” Kearns said.

The picnic yielded 10 bins of food donations for Community Mission of Hope, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to feed and care for needy people in the Temecula Valley. Each week the organization provides food boxes to more than 150 families, Kearns pointed out.

"La Vorgna Elementary school families have huge hearts and I want our whole community to know what they have done," Kearns said.
